He made one of our favourite albums of 2020 and we can’t wait to hear it live

Bartees Strange’s 2020 album Live Forever is a unique mix of blues, indie rock and hip hop. It has rarely been off our playlist over the last 12 months and we’re crossing everything we’ve got in the hopes that we might get to see the record played live sometime soon.

Last night, Bartees made his late night US TV debut with an incredible performance of Boomer. It’s the perfect introduction to one of our favourite artists around right now.

Who: Bartees Strange

Where: Born in Ipswich but now based in Washington DC

What: From Hardcore and Emo in his teenage years to Opera from his musician parents, Burial and Skream to Brooklyn indie rock luminaries like The National, Bartees’ wide ranging taste informs his own unique and brilliant music.

Why: “On his fascinating debut album, the D.C.-based musician moves freely through many different styles—arena-rock, folk, rap—creating an album about that freedom as a Black artist and so much more. ” Pitchfork
