Uma joins FORM’s Class of ’21

Who: Uma

Where: Catalunya

What: Inspired by the likes of Josephine Foster, Syble Baker and Karen Dalton, Uma’s delicately beautiful music is a perfect tonic right now

Why: “These tracks, though accessible in their listenability, blur the lines of traditional genres, as Uma focuses on the beauty and versatility of sound.” Circuit Sweet

Describe your music for someone who’s never heard it?
Heart on sleeve melancholic indie folk-pop with a touch of Mediterranean sassiness.

Who are some artists who’re inspiring you right now?
Chassol, Dorothy Ashby and Little Dragon

What’s been your highlight of 2020?
In terms of work, a highlight that has also come with some real lows has been releasing my first ep and finishing my second. Also, finding the silver lining in this situation in being able to spend this much time with my family and loved ones at home.

What are you most excited about for 2021?
The idea of seeing my grandmother, my sister, my nieces, my friends and the possibility of gigs, maybe.

Tell us about a band/artist that you’re excited to hear more from in 2021?
Definitely Sola, and also some new Lucy Lu hopefully. Very interested to hear a 3rd Rosalia album and see where she’s going to take it.
