With comedy clubs, theatres and arts centres closed across the country, Stand Up comedy has turned to the internet. From Mark Watson’s mammoth 24 hour show to the weekly gigs at the ‘COVID Arms’ there’s been a whole host of incredible stuff over the last few months. Here’s a quick round-up of some of the stuff we’ve enjoyed:
Hannah Gadsby’s genre defying Nanette is one the best comedy shows we’ve seen in recent years so we were obviously thrilled when her follow up, Douglas, popped up on Netflix a few weeks back.
Each Saturday a bunch of ace comedians perform live from their own homes in the virtual pub, The Covid Arms. Hosted by the brilliant Kiri Pritchard-McLean, their line-ups are always top quality with Rich Hall, Joel Dommett and Sunil Patel. The, super cheap, ticket price supports comedians who have lost all of their work and charities such as The Trussell Trust.
You’ll recognise him from the Nationwide comedy adverts but Adam Rowe is a staple of the UK comedy club circuit. He self recorded and released a special, filmed live at London’s comedy store. It’s up on YouTube for free so go check it out.
Next Up is the Netflix of the UK’s underground comedy scene. It features tonnes of recorded shows from the best comedians from around the country including Jessica Fostekew, Jordan Brookes, Christopher Bliss and more.
